We'd had a sprinkling of snow on Saturday, but nowhere near enough to go sledding. My parents, living a good 300m higher, had more snow and had been promised more, so that we decided to drive up on Sunday. Which we did.

(I still don't like how I have to keep telling myself that it was absolutely justified to take the day off and postpone some of my very important marking.)

The grown-ups had fun, too, and did their fair share of sledding, too.

Not a sign of global warming.

Hamamelis/Witch-hazel/Zaubernuss blooms in winter.

Lovely smell, too.

When we left the house, the sky was still blue and the sun was out. On the motorway we realized that we were travelling towards a big mass of dark-blue clouds full of rain or maybe sleet.

When we arrived at our destination - that one Dutch city where all Rhinelanders go to buy stuff on a Sunday - the hail was pouring down.

Last time I was there, we also ended up being soaked. Here is a mix of old and new pictures:

Yesterday we got snow. Quite a lot of it, but because it was not cold enough it became soggy and slushy and mushy really quickly. We did go for a walk, but it wasn't the nicest experience. There is too much dogshit around these parts here anyway and mixed up with snowy slush it is difficult to look out for and avoid.

Yesterday I went on a snowy walk around the same-old places.

They looked different than usual.
