I was a little burnt out after the photomeme of December and I haven't taken many pictures this year, but this game sounds like fun and I need the challenge.

Anyone want to join me?

Somehow grapes became crap.

He certainly has no clue what he's done there.

Fauxpax.

A false sense of peace?
sister_luck: (winter)
We've been promised winter weather and it started off with a stormy night, so that even this cold bedroom fanatic closed the window. There was more hail and thunder and rain today in between bouts of sunshine. The temperature is now just above freezing.

I'm recuperating by being extremely lazy - leaving the school work for the weekend and instead finishing The Terror, a very satisfying read. There was also a sneaky visit to the cinema yesterday to ogle James Bond. I figured if I'm allowed out to sit in my doctor's waiting room, then being chauffeured half across town to sit in a comfy chair at the local multiplex is okay, too.

I've also discovered a virtual spelling bee (it helps if you switch on the speakers). It's hard, especially as the damn thing adapts to your skill level and I ended up having to spell words that I didn't know, some of which I got right much to my surprise.

I can report that I've relocated my desk after removing several layers of books, photocopies, folders and general detritus. It feels good and it means I'll be able to do some work tomorrow without having to shift various piles of stuff onto the floor. The bookcases are still a mess, but that's something for another time.

The dancing lady has been replaced by this. It does get a little repetitive after some time, but at least you can assuage your feelings of guilt about spending too much time on a silly little wordgame by telling yourself that you're helping hungry people. The ads are relatively unintrusive and the game is kind of fun. Having had Latin in school helps.

Brains

I'd like to share something I found in [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_'s lastest linkspam.

Some of you will have seen it already elsewhere but it's so fascinating and frustrating that it deserves another mention. Go here and look at the dancing lady. Which way is she turning for you?

The frustrating thing is that I know the theory of how this picture works. I also know myself. I am a right-brain person. I've seen her turn anti-clockwise twice. Once after I spotted a spelling mistake on the same page and the other time it just happened.

The boyfriend of course sees her turning anti-clockwise, but can will her to turn the other way, too.

On the other hand, there are also lots of pictures that work similarly. They're not animated gifs but depending on how your brain interprets the picture it's for example either an old hag or a pretty young woman. With these, the switching isn't as difficult for me. I'm not even sure it says something about a left- or right-brain preference. Then, I'm also left-handed, so my brain is different anyway.

Behind the cut you will find two pictures. Can you tell me what happened here? It may take a team effort.

Huh? )

Prize still to be decided.
