To celebrate that I've been mostly very good at staying at my desk and getting through an awful lot of marking I'm posting my final pictures from Freiburg.

You'll get to see pictures taken at odd angles showing assorted buildings from several centuries.

Here. )

Gritty?

Last night's episode of KDD was a disappointment. The writers are aiming to write an episodic crime series which is gritty and realistic, but they failed this time.

Here's some street art I photographed in the last couple of weeks. )

Actually, that subject line is slightly misleading. The programme I watched last night wasn't soothing at all.
German television. )

My cold is still annoying, but I'll spare you the details. The next few weeks are going to be interesting job-wise: lots of marking to do and some decision to be officially announced about who I'll work with after the summer break.

I promised soothing pictures. Under the cut you can see some horizons. )

In a way this is pointless, because I should just direct you to a website that shows you the same and more statues without the netting and in better quality. (All the pictures there can be enlarged by a click and there's more to see if you follow the links next to the picture of Mary with the baby Jesus.)

Because [livejournal.com profile] frances_lievens was first to comment, I'm starting my Freiburg picspam with the cathedral and I'm struggling with all the architectural terms. I don't know them properly in German, let alone in English, so please ignore all abuses and misuses!

Now that the frosts have returned, I can scarcely believe how lucky we were with the weather for our roadtrip. It might have helped that our destination is known as one of the sunniest areas in Germany. Naturally, everything was just a little bit greener than at home.

The village where our friend lives is quaint and picturesque, with signs of authentic village life and while most of it was spick and span it didn't have the well-scrubbed artificial look of the more touristy places. Because we only stayed for such a short while I didn't get the chance to walk around and take some proper pictures, so all you get are views from the two balconies.
