After the storm

It was still dark this morning and wet, so I didn't see what Kyrill had done to the world around me. Later, when there was enough light to see out of the windows of the classroom I was teaching in we discovered that a huge tree had been uprooted behind the building but outside the schoolgrounds. On my way back home, the sun came out. There were still big white-grey clouds, but the light was very powerful and everything looked freshly scrubbed. I saw some trees with missing limbs and others that had fallen over.
Last night was relatively quiet - the windows rattled a bit, sirens kept blaring through the night, but from my point of view this wasn't half as scary as expected. I've been lucky though - other places have been hit far worse.
I hope all of you are safe and stayed indoors during the worst of it.

Date: 2007-01-19 04:24 pm (UTC)The bus made a giant roundabout because of a building loosing its bricks. Got to the daycare in the nick of time. Went to my sister's place to wait. By the time I got home (around 8pm) most of it was over.
So I guess I was actualy outside and on the road for the most part of it. I did come home safely and saw the aftermath today: getting late in school because some roads were still closed, loads of firetrucks everywhere to put tiles back on roofs etc. I guess I got lucky. :-)

Date: 2007-01-19 06:15 pm (UTC)Most schools here closed early - after the fourth or fifth lesson. It was the first time I've ever seen that happen where I live!
Glad that you got through the storm safely.
