- and then the Maenad storyline will be wrapped up and I expect that the Maryann-induced good times in Bon Temps will come to an end. I wonder about the aftermath - obviously there needs to be a huge clean-up of the town and of Sookie's Grandmother's house, but what about the residents' memories? Will they all have the amnesia that we already saw manifest in Tara and Eggs? Will all the people not affected be the only ones who remember? That would do interesting things to some of the relationships, for example that of Hoyt and his Mama.

Looking back, I can say that I've enjoyed the season, but every episode contains at least one bit of dialogue that is cringingly bad. And I still don't know what this show wants to do - it veers wildly between campy fun (the vampire queen and her court), social commentary (aspects of the Fellowship of the Sun storyline) and supernatural romance/mystery. Then there are also little metafictional hints - like the Vampire Queen repeatedly asking for slashy content, but we only get to see girl-on-girl action. I wonder how many Eric/Bill shippers are out there apart from her. I can't see it personally, I'm much more intrigued by Eric/Lafayette.

I'm still less interested in Sookie and Bill than in most of the other characters. There's Tara who I was glad got to address her status as victim, but it's a shame that her attempt at fighting back resulted in her again falling under Maryann's influence. I hope she gets to kick Maryann's ass!

Then there's something I noticed about one character's reception: Jason is universally seen as sexy but dumb. Granted, he is an uneducated, at times naive sex-crazy small-town boy, but his approach to rescuing Sam from the angry mob mirrors the Vampire Queen's advice - making the enemy believe that the awaited god has come. He can think on his feet when he needs to, and while his method seemed ridiculous at first, it did fool the crowd. It didn't fool Maryann of course, so Bill and Eric need to come up with a more convincing scenario. This shows, in my opinion, that Jason is less stupid than people think, immature, yes, but he possesses what I'd call Bauernschläue, literally the cleverness or cunning of a farmer. He tends to get underestimated.

I'm looking forward to the finale - please don't spoil in the comments.
