Having parallel blogs is strange - nothing much happening on the dreamwidth side of things and while I'm happy with the general layout of my journal I'd like the font size of the entries to go up and possibly a different font, but I don't know how to change it. And if you want to come over, I've got two invite codes to share – email me (address in profile, but don't use the lj one!) and I'll send them to you.
But I've got words! And so can you!
Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.
distractogirl gave me language, pictures, fortune, radio, nature.
Language:
Oh, where to start? I'm endlessly fascinated by how language(s) evolve, change. Language can be used for good and for bad, it can be mangled, it can be gloriously playful, overwrought, sparse, complicated, simple.
It just is.
Pictures:
I take them. It's genetic.
No, of course not, it's a definite case of nurture: My dad is a photography nut and he passed that on to me. I like landscapes and cityscapes. Oh, and structures. What I don't do (usually) is take the typical 'here's my friend in front of famous landmark' souvenir snap. When I show my photo albums, this frustrates people.
I'd like to be better at the technical side of things and I find myself getting frustrated with my digital point-and-shoot, so much so that I'm thinking about dusting off my old SLR camera and going back to the pre-digital era for a while.
Fortune:
Is this connected to my username?
Fortuna is the name of the local football club though it hasn't brought them luck in the last years. I'm fortunate in so many ways, but I don't want to talk about 'lucky me' – I get superstitious about that kind of thing.
Radio:
It was always on in my childhood, mostly news and commentary stuff with some music inbetween. These songs take me right back and that's where I caught the first few words (or so I thought) of the English language.
Nowadays I only listen to the radio in the car on the way to work and occasionally in the kitchen.
Nature:
This meme takes me back to my childhood, but that's what memes are about, aren't they, getting us to reveal things about ourselves.
Even though I'm a city-dweller and grew up in the suburbs, nature has always been important in my life – my family didn't have a lot of money, so our weekend entertainment consisted of tramping through the local woods (first on foot, later by bike) and holidays were inevitably full of hiking and exploring country-side not too far away from home. I got my first pen-knife at the tender age of four or five because that's what you need when you go looking for mushrooms in the forest!
So, yes, I've still got my eyes on the ground, trying to spot an unusual flower or any other interesting find. These days, I don't get out as much as I'd like, but on the other hand, I'm not terribly keen on driving somewhere and then going on a 15 km hike – I'm more of a leisurely explorer and even the park provides enough nature for me. Have I mentioned that I saw the waterhen babies yesterday?
