Latest American television that I've watched:
Heroes
I'm not sure why I bother, except for Mama Petrelli, who is just deliciously devious. Even Hiro and Ando don't do it for me anymore. As to Mohinder? That was so predictable and gross. Also, it was slightly insulting to the viewers to add the nurse to the chess-playing scene. Wasn't it obvious that Linderman, or however you spell his name, could only be seen by big brother Petrelli? Also, isn't it funny how all Parisian appartments shown on American television have a view of the Eiffel tower? What's up with not-Nicki?
True Blood
I like it. The boyfriend is possibly enjoying this even more. Now we know why Sookie's brother needed to have so much sex in the first episodes: set-up for the priapism. Ewww and painful. Even in this 'verse sex is bad for you.
According to the boyfriend, himself a man of few words, Bill is cool. Just like Sookie, I'm beginning to get the desire to look behind the facade and find out more. I quite liked the master vampire.
I love the theme song and I giggled lots when the boyfriend managed to identify the song at the end after just a few chords. He's a music geek.

But the Fangtastica stuff made me roll my eyes, especially the way Eric was introduced, and all those gothic vampires. So cliché. I like Bill (Stephen Moyer does have charisma)but as characters go he's himself not very original.
Just think of what Joss Whedon would have done...HIS vampires were refreshing, and when they were not he just mock it (like Angel meeting his clone in "Lie To Me"!).
I liked the opening scenes, with the coroners and their "audience", and how Sam kissed Sookie's head.
And yes Jason trying to get some release and only getting a blister made me smile (the blister thing, now that was quite daring)
Young Jason was cute and it makes sense that Tara has such a crush on him. Touching.
Not sure about the last scene though...The way Sam wriggled on the bed while sniffing the sheets, it was not dog-like (the wriggling at least) and was actually kind of creepy.

Maybe because it's needed for the clash between the 'normal' world of Sookie and her family and friends and the vampire world. Maybe because it has this element of making the cliché a reality, not a fantasy which results in some sort of heightened absurdity - with vampire rights activists, illegal vamp blood dealers and the vampire fetish disco and so on. That's not to say that I like everything about it - for example I don't care for the speeded up bits to show extra vampire strength.
It's not entirely Anne Rice, but of course it isn't Joss Whedon either.
