We finally got our thunderstorm at 2.45 in the morning and then ran to close all the windows. Now it's a fairly humid and overcast 29°C with the occasional bit of rain. Much better.

My job has now been officially characterised as 'the least boring' according to a recent survey. I agree wholeheartedly, apart from some boring administrative duties.

I love all those cultural oddities and sometimes you can even get answers on where they come from: The two taps mystery or why we continental Europeans think that British bathrooms are a bit behind the times (see question two). Several other continental concerns are addressed as well by this open letter from the Guardian to Polish plumbers. But some puzzles remain: The 99s question left unanswered.

Anyone know how to do a raindance?

The promised thunderstorms never materialised. On Saturday we had a short drop in the temperature to about 25° C and the air smelled of the rain that the clouds had dumped elsewhere.

Currently there's a breeze and I'm enjoying that very much, but that won't help the wild brambles on the patch across the street. They're drying up and I'm glad that I'm not a farmer whose livelihood depends on his crops.

I'm dreaming of dancing in the soft summer rain. Alternatively, I'd settle for a huge big downpour that leaves the warm streets steaming. I love the particular smell when all the dust mixes with the rain and then settles on the ground.

Yesterday I braved the heat and went into town. As most of the journey there can be done underground, it wasn't too bad.

That's what I did and then I walked home.
