It's too cold for summer.
Jul. 12th, 2008 01:53 pmThis sounds like right out of a Torchwood episode. A ghost slug that eats "earthworms at night with powerful, blade-like teeth, sucking them in like spaghetti". I like the fact that they describe it as an 'alien' species with the single quotation marks added.
In other news, I've re-read a couple of books, mostly crime which is nice and distracting, discovered that I own an unread copy of The Children of Men by P.D. James, a book which I'm not going to read as I'm still shell-shocked from watching the film, even though wikipedia informs me that the film is only loosely based on the plot of the book.
There's still lots of rain with thunderstorms at night. Right now the sun is shining, but there's a mass of clouds looming on the horizon. I've done some half-hearted attempts at preparing for the next school year and yesterday was the first day that I didn't waste several hours on playing Texttwist.
KDD, which I've mentioned before, had a finale that we didn't recognize as such (too many loose plot threads left dangling) and I must say the soap opera element got really annoying: It looks like everybody needs to sleep with everybody else and of course they also had to put in a pregnancy storyline with the pregnant cop not really knowing who the father might be, either the old ex-alcoholic police officer or the young ex-asshole police officer. Really, the character transformation of the younger policeman was a sight to behold. It turned out that under all the misogyny and general assholishness there was a sensitive guy who sang at his grandmother's funeral (which we didn't get to see thankfully). Cop-lady, who is still a good character, goes to older guy first to tell him about the baby, but younger guy finds out, too. She has already made an appointment for an abortion and the series ends with a confrontation in front of the hospital - with the two guys shouting at each other that they're the Dad and so on and then Maria tries to run away from them and crossing the street she is hit by a car. Fade-out and we have to wait for the next season to resolve that story. And this is just one of the soap opera storylines.

Date: 2008-07-12 05:02 pm (UTC)Well, for some reason the sun stayed out this afternoon. Hang on, I know the reason: we stayed in. Had we gone out, we would have got soaked.
But yeah, it's way too cold. I'm drinking tea all the time and that's not really a summer drink, is it?
