Today was the first day with sunshine - seems like I picked a good day to go back to school. In the morning we still had dramatic clouds which looked gorgeous in the low light of the sun. This afternoon it had cleared up completely and it was a beautiful day.

I feel slightly ranty about the fact that some of the tasks I'd sent to school for my students to do never got to them and that five people didn't have any of their books with them because 'we thought you weren't back yet and we never had any proper English lessons while you were away'.

Oh and yes, apologizing for what you said to me, dearest colleague, was a nice gesture and you acknowledged that you couldn't make it unsaid, but it says so much about how you view me that I'm still angry. (She greeted me with a hug and the words "Oh, our child is back". She's not even ten years older and while I'm the youngest in our team, that just wasn't appropriate.)

OMG - that is such an inappropriate thing to say!!!

It was sunny here today too - doesn't it make you feel better when the sun is shining? It's such an improvement on how dark the days have been here for the past week!!

Yeah, it annoyed the hell out of me - have I mentioned that my team consists of two men and 5-7 women? Said colleague is the second youngest and when the mood strikes them all except one of them can be very very maternal. I think I could have coped with something about my height (the little one or some such nonsense), but yeah, thanks for seeing me as an equal.

What a moron! I wish I could slap her.

I'm very hormonal today (I threw two pupils out of my classroom in the afternoon) so if you need someone to be offed or even dismembered, you just have to ask, I'm your (hit)man!

Thanks for the kind offer! I actually enjoy getting angry about it, honestly, it's very invigorating.

(I only taught two lessons and I sent someone outside, too. Only for two minutes, but he so deserved it.)

That makes two of us then. (In being hormonal not sending kids outside.) I punished two little ones on Friday and had a terrible row on Sunday with crying fit. I felt horrible. Today the sun's shining and suddenly it's all better. I don't get it really.

Ah yes, the sun picked a good day to shine: the one were I only work in the afternoon.

Oh yes, the whole tasky thing and stupid students. Had the same problem at my school, because or the students would get another lesson instead, or they would be sent home early without the task, or they would just not get a task. So instead I gave the task in advance, saying they had to do it for the next lesson no matter what. They hadn't done it. "We were allowed to go home early, ma'am." Oh yes, they had completely forgotten about where I had told them to do it at home if they didn't feel like doing it at school.
You didn't bring your book? (1)No-one told you I was still ill and (2)You should have brought your book for the tasks I sent to school, so now you've got an extra task and I'll write your name in my big book of naughty students.

And what a creepy colleague do you have! I'd never say that to you (or any of my colleagues -- I did call them "girls" once though) and I wouldn't hug a colleague. Yuck.
Reminds me of that one colleague who sort of reprimanded me for not being tactful enough with students that were having a girlish row. You know I don't get girlish rows, so I was very straightforward and asked them what was going on. "That's not a way to say that." Later I heard she was my age, but because she was teaching longer at the school, she thought she was better at communicating with the girls. Ugh. Hate it when colleagues talk to you like you're one of the kids. Hate. Hate. Hate.

Thus ends my rant. ;-)

We are a fairly huggy-feely school - and I'm mostly fine with that. We don't kiss each other hello and if you've been away for some time the colleagues you're close with will hug you.

I didn't like the hugs today, because I didn't want to start crying which is my normal reaction to heart-felt sympathy.
