Wednesdays are not my friend. Last school year Wednesday was my worst day and this year the trend continues.

I've got eight lessons in a row without a proper break and I have to change buildings a couple of times, so it's a day of frantic running around. The last lesson is with my liveliest group and they were already a handful today. Well, at least I don't start with the first lesson, so I can sleep in a little and start teaching at 8.40 - which is still early in my book, but hey, it's not 7.55 like on Mondays and Thursdays. I've got eight lessons on Monday, but at least I've got a proper lunchbreak then and seven lessons on Thursday with two free periods in the middle, so those days should be doable. I've only got two lessons on Tuesdays and none on Friday, so I should be glad that I've got a day off, right? I don't want a day off, not with a full-time lesson commitment. Tuesday is our day for conferences and meetings, so most weeks I'll have to stick around for nearly three hours waiting for those to start. Well, I'll do my photocopying then. I wouldn't mind going to school every day of the week, because that means that my lessons would be spread a little more evenly.

That's my incoherent ramble for today - don't mind me, whining is what teachers do best.

I always forget that you start the school day so early! Wow! We start at 9am at the College and my own kids start at 8.35am at their school.

How long are the lessons?

We've got 45 minute lessons - it's the standard in Germany, but some schools are starting to change that.

The early start is something I really don't like about teaching in Germany. I'm not really a morning person...

I always feel so sorry for you that you already start the school year when the holidays are only half finished. Good luck in the New Year, honey. And thank you for your wonderful card from the Algarve. That was certainly a surprise. :-)

When I was in secondary school I had a similar timetable: one day only two hours, one terribly long day, two other "normal" days, and a day off for which I should be grateful. Not. And all the other teachers saying I got a splendid timetable. The only fun thing you have is that your day off is before the weekend. Then you can go off for a longer weekend or something. Having it on Tuesday or Thursday is bigger suckage.

Because in primary school I can only teach six hours a day I've got to go in every day, but I've got the feeling I spent less time at school. (Maybe also due to the fact I don't have to commute so long.)

Sorry for typos. As you can see I haven't slept much on the plane over. My grammar is down the drain.

Thank you for your card from Chicago - I really like the picture on it!

Well, the holidays will start a little later for my next year and then even later the year after that, because the dates are staggered in the different Länder so not everyone is on holiday at the same time, so there will be a year when my holidays start at roughly the same time as in the other European countries.

Yes, it's Thursday evening and my weekend has already started, so that's a good thing - it means I'll be able to go on a couple of weekend trips this year.

I don't know what I sent you. I know I sent a couple of people one of those nice b/w-cards of which the lady in the shop said she liked them as well. Di you get one of these? In that case: Yes, very nice picture. :-) My sister said the same today and was partly jealous we went to a city where she would be able to take so many good photgraphs.

It is a b/w-card - it shows a "Historic El Train Stop" with blurry people waiting to get on the train.
