It's very difficult to capture a daytrip in pictures, to convey the experience of going to a completely new place, of discovering a city.

Anyway, I'm not a photojournalist, so these three pictures are just placeholders for my memories and a little window showing you what I saw.





Clicking on the picture will explain why this statue is throwing a hand.



I liked the contrast of the madonna and the street art, but was a bit rushed, so I'm not really happy with the picture.

You do know that's why the city is called Antwerpen, right? "Hand werpen", get it... ;-)

No, because I know that story. It's one of the things you learn at school when you're a kid and go on a school trip to Antwerp...

Well, if you follow the link you'll see that they offer an alternative etymolgy for the name of the city - but I still like the folk etymolgy of 'hand werpen' better.
