Laach Lake

In German Laacher See - or Lake Lake, as Laach is from Old High German lacha - which is related to English lake of course.

You can hire a pedalo/paddle boat or row boat. No rowing for us, but we got boat no. 13:

The lake is not another maar, but a caldera lake - so it's volcanic, too, but it was formed in a huge eruption on the scale of the Pinatubo event in 1991. That was 12,900 years ago so not that many people around, but the lives of the Federmesser culture were severely disrupted.

The weather wasn't great for pictures, but here are some from the middle of the lake.

It's a big lake and a tad eerie.

The green of the trees is coming along nicely.
