The television news programmes are too depressing.

Here are some flowers:





Lesser Celandine or Scharbockskraut. Today I learned that Scharbock = Skorbut, i.e. scurvy: lots of vitamin C in the leaves. Other names are Feigwurz or fig buttercup.



Crocus. Germans have settled on Krokusse as the plural form, whereas the English-speaking world can choose between a Latin version croci and the more regular version crocuses.



Most commonly called Gänseblümchen in German - goose (small) flowers but there are many more names mentioned on wikipedia here.

Today I learned that daisy = day's eye.



In German these are Schneeglöckchen, snow (small) bells, not snow drops.
Galanthus which is the scientific names is from Greek and means milk flower.
The French perce-neige describes how the flowers pierce the snow.
