Instead of ruins, I today bring you the main church of Lagos:

The postcard view of Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos:

Nearby there is an underground carpark. In the glass doors of the elevator you can see the reflection of the church:

View from the trackless train that takes the tourists around the town:

The second church tower you see is Igreja de Santo António which also houses the City's museum, part of which is being refurbished. It's a great little museum which we visited the last two years with absolutely everything in it. Seriously, everything from prehistoric adzes to Roman columns to African artefacts, money from all over the world, paintings, historic dresses, depictions of rural life, tiny models of the town and then a stunning church with lots of gold and tiles (currently closed to the public).

Anyway, it was very important that we took the train - it was the kid's "biggest dream for the holiday". On a day we went out to sea to watch the dolphins he couldn't quite decide what was better, the train or the dolphins.

If you followed the link, this train was a German-made Tschu Tschu-train which the kid called a Bimmelbahn. I found out that German officalese calls it Wegebahn. I like the kid's version much better. English is again showing off its fondness for vocabulary - it has so many words for them!
