I've been tagged by [livejournal.com profile] frenchani for the letter meme.

This is how it works: Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter - if you want one. Write ten words beginning with that letter, including an explanation of what the word means to you and why.

I got an A.

alphabet A word containing two greek letters but used to describe all of them. And letters make up words and I devour them in their written form and generally love them. I'm also very interested in etymology and so on. Though sadly, I don't really know much about other alphabets.

ass A confusing word - donkey or arse? Well, stubborn animals that bray don't do much for me, but a nice firm behind is definitely appealing.

absurd A weird word? A weird world! There is also my love for Samuel Beckett.

accent I love listening to different accents - that's another reason why I hate that we get our movies in a dubbed version. Sometimes it even makes it more difficult to follow the plot. Sometimes the movie becomes entirely unwatchable - in Killing Zoe for example they dubbed both the French and the English, so you get Eric Stoltz speaking in a weird American accent half the time - that's when he speaks French! The accents in French though? Never managed to learn them.

arresting I like the fact that this word means attractive, even though being arrested is no fun.

antithesis A real tongue twister of a word, but once you know how to say it, it's neat. And of course, rhetorical devices are part of my job.

appreciate It's important to appreciate the good things, no matter how small.

alliteration It's another rhetorical device, but this an alliterative meme.

appropriate This is not a neat word - just because I find it difficult to say without stumbling over it.

appartment I love our flat, even though it is shabby in places which is much more noticeable now that we've done up the study and the living room. It's a haven.

Wheww, that was much more difficult than I anticipated!

I've been marking exam papers today. My favourite misspelling so far: fairy tail.

This afternoon while marking the following - very bad - punning occurred. Do not read on, if you are religious or easily offended. I profusely apologize, but it just happened. It's not even clever. I must also add that the philosopher mentioned didn't really say it as such.

One of my pupils wrote her very own version of "Do unto others as you would have them unto you" and attributed this rule to god.

Me, questioning the boyfriend: That wasn't god or Jesus, was it? It's not anywhere in the bible, is it?
Boyfriend:Well, basically it's Kant. pause So, Kant is god? pause Or god is a cunt?

arrrrgh

*Guffaws!*

Well, according to the Feminist movement, God is..... ;)

These Letter meme's are getting pretty high-brow now! You're all embarrassing me with your intellect... but I'm delighted to be friended to such a brainy crew!

Hey, it's not my fault that I got an A - it was really difficult as there are lots of 'big' words starting with it, but thanks for the compliment.

*hugs*
