The letter S for this was kindly provided by [personal profile] oursin as well as the format.

Something I hate:

Suffering and self-pity. Which seem to be related. It's too easy to pronounce that while others suffer all I do is feel pity for myself, but what I'm getting at is that in the absence of real suffering, i.e. agonizing mental or physical pain, everything else is just self-pity. And I'm scared of the moments when shit gets real, either for me or others, because it's not pretty or enobling, it's tough and bleak and relentless.

Something I love:

Slang. Yep. English teacher loves slang is not a contradiction. English being my second language there is always new slang to discover, but German slang is fascinating, too. Which reminds me, I still have to get the Slayer Slang book. I love the playfulness and creativity of slang.

Somewhere I have been:

Cheating a little bit: South Island, New Zealand. I cannot say that I've seen all of it, but spending six months there as a teenager was formative in many ways and from time to time I get really homesick. Loved the scenery, the lifestyle, the people.

Somewhere I would like to go:

See above. A place I haven't been and would like to go? Siena - standing in for Tuscany. Itally actually - I don't think I've ever set foot on Italian soil and thus I choose Siena and to get there I will have to see a little more of Italy than just that city.

Someone I know:

Well, I'm not going to name names! Or actually, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Girls' names beginning with S, that is. Here comes anecdotal observation which it would be interesting to back up with some solid research: About twenty years ago, in Germany, there were born very many girls whose parents gave them names beginning with S and containing at least one a: Sara (in various spellings), Samantha, Samira, Sanaria, Sandra, Sophia are some of them. Ten years later it is all about the L: Lara, Lea, Lena, Lisa, Laura, Laureen, Luisa which is also popular for boys: Luca, Lukas, Leo, Leon.
Parents? This makes my life harder. Also, I wonder what's next? I think, names beginning with M are making a comeback: Mara, Marie, Mona - there are always some of these around - the Mias are still in primary school, I think, so this might be the next wave coming my way.

A movie:

Gotta go with Serenity. Coming up with all the other words was hard, so this has to be easy choice.
