Why Portugal?
Aug. 15th, 2013 08:49 pmLet's start with this beach:
Technically most of the beach is unsafe, but the holidaymakers are not deterred by that. Rock fall becomes a problem during the months with rain, but in summer the cliffs are relatively stable. Less dangerous than hotel balconies in Spanish resorts, I believe - (they don't crumble, but there have been deaths when people fell off them).
During the day the beach can get quite full and we only went there once for bathing, but it was our favourite for an evening stroll. I only took my mobile with me then, so it's low-quality mobile phone pictures only.
That's a partial view from the top of the stairs:

In the background, across the bay you can see Alvor with its hotel towers.
Another view from above:

The beach loses direct sunlight fairly early - the rock further out is still in the sun:

Depending on the time of day the colour of the rocks changes:

View from the other side and the other set of stairs:

It's the most famous beach next to the long and sandy Meia Praia (which you can glimpse in the first picture) in Lagos, but there are several other rocky beaches that are very similar.
