In the mountains.
May. 15th, 2013 07:09 pmThis is a view of Deià:

If you followed the link to wikipedia, you may have read that Robert Graves lived and died there. His house is now a museum and the flowers growing on top of a dry stone wall can be glimpsed from outside.

We drove further along the coast and briefly stopped to look down on Port de Sóller:

There were more and more clouds in the mountains - very eerie.

It was cold up there, but it did not rain. When we left the island on Sunday evening, there was actually some snow covering the mountains. It's definitely more alpine up there than mediterranean! The highest mountain in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO world heritage site, is the Puig Major with 1445 metres.

Here, we were still below the tree line:

Then we drove through a tunnel in the mountain and past two big lakes - man-made, very important for the island's water supply and through lots of thick fog.
If you want to know more about the area, here are several maps.
