Up the mountain, down the mountain.

Childless weekend meant fun for grown-ups: a party on Friday, Iron Man 3 on Saturday and time to do some work for school. I'd promised myself to resume posting holiday pictures only after I had made progress on my to do list. (It's still full, but I've got several important things done.)
So, that's why you had a bit of break in my Mallorca spamming.
On our first day of having the rental car we drove east and after Cala Figuera we took the tour up Puig de Sant Salvador. You can walk or cycle (very popular at this time of year) but we were lazy and took the car.
There is a huge monument where the cyclists stop and rest:

The view from up there is splendid:

There is a Santuari - the church is still in use, but the monastery is now a restaurant and hotel.

Detail from inside the church - a display of the story of the birth of Jesus Christ:

Notice how they used the local limestone as a background.
To see the Three Magi (didn't photograph well) and the shepherds you had to look through a small glass porthole-style window:

I'm used to only getting this sort of display around Christmas, so was surprised to see a permanent version.
More inside church:

View from two-thirds up the mountain looking at the monument..

..and at the monastery:

Up there, there is a big stone cross:

Another monastery view with a bit of road which gives you an idea why driving or cycling up the mountain is fun, but hard work:

View through the trees:
