I went on a weekend break with a whole bunch of my colleagues to a picturesque and touristy destination close-by. We had it all - culture, food, walking, a boat trip, more food and lots of sun.

The village we stayed in was rather bijou, maybe even a little bit too clean and well-maintained - though when you wandered around a bit there were still some signs of normal non-touristy life.

Boat trips on this part of the Rhine are a big tradition not only for the tourists from far away, but also for the locals. Ours was overpriced and the Kaffee und Kuchen on offer a bit meagre. You had to pay extra for a dollop of cream to go with your apple tart. I'll show the perfect place for cake in another instalment of my little travelogue.

The weather was great with spectacular clouds and lots of sunshine. And then there were the views, too, and they're really worth it.

You can just about make out the seven hills of fairy tale fame, but then that's not really the origin of the name Siebengebirge.

Flag and the most legendary of the hills, the famous Drachenfels.

It's been really hard going back to school this week after Friday afternoon and Saturday in full holiday mode. Eight more days and then we're through.
