Words fail me.
Jun. 6th, 2011 07:30 pmThere's a big plant in the entrance area of our school and because it needs to be easy maintenance it is cultivated by hydroponics. I'm sure you know these big containers with leafy tree-like greenery that grows in small brown pebbles and graces universities, municipal buildings and other areas where people sit around and wait.
Every class at one point in their time at our school discovers that the small brown pebbles are well-suited for throwing around in classrooms - they don't really hurt, but are very annoying when you get hit by them, they can be carried around in your pockets and when you stand on them they make a lovely crunching sound and turn into brownish powder. You see, I'm an expert- as far as the stuff's misuse in a school context is concerned. But what is its proper name?
Ex-clay, expanded clay pellets. Or Blähton.
So, now I know. Though it won't do me any good - because calling it by its proper name won't change a thing.
