If you're out on a trip at a company and your teacher non-verbally tells you to stop being non-attentive and giggly during a presentation, you'd better react instantly. The embarrassment you felt when your teacher told you off publicly could have been prevented. Also, not your teacher's behaviour was embarrassing, yours was.

Don't let yourself be guilt-tripped. You called someone in your charge on their bad behaviour and their reaction was woefully inadequate. Making a public critical comment about this to your host was entirely your right.
Two incidents, same day. All in all, it was a successful outing: the kids showed the right amount of interest and our hosts were great.
