Have you read (BBCnews link) about the German minister embroiled in a plagiarism scandal? Lifting your intro from a newspaper article word for word would mean an F if this had been coursework handed in to me. Something like 68% of the four-hundred-odd pages of his Ph.D. dissertation contain unacknowledged passages from other texts. The apologists are already out there - the poor guy was an MP and then there are the two small children to be taken into account, that's quite the workload, so what are a couple of misplaced footnotes? He got top marks, too. Nepotism, quite clearly. I just hope he feels the consequences.
