Technology fail.
Oct. 28th, 2010 07:37 pmThe internet is a wonderful resource and of course I'm meant to use it with my students in the classroom. It should be part of their learning environment. I do want to be the teacher who uses so-called new media (already old hat for today's students). So, from the comfort of my own home I used the internet - and there's a certain irony to this - to book the computer room in the building that we share with the school next door.
What did I teach my students?
That my school is hopeless with technology:
There's a projector but streaming video is impossible even from the teacher's computer.
Downloading 330 MB of video file would take an hour or longer.
There are huge speakers but you cannot listen to audio files because there is no sound card on the teacher's computer.
The website of the New York Review of Books is blocked for the students.
