The bigger picture.

sister_luckHere are two incidents that have annoyed me muchly:
The more recent one I encountered first in the German media but I quickly tracked it down to its original source: Bernie Ecclestone never struck me as a likeable sort of guy, but now he has completely disqualified himself by praising Hitler for "getting things done". To top it all off, he perpetuates that myth that can be summed up in German with wenn das der Führer wüsste about Hitler possibly not actually having wanted to do away with the Jews: "Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not". FAIL.
His comments come in the familiar guise of dictators/strong leaders are better at running countries than democratic governments. This kind of attitude, including the admiration for Hitler, I've heard far too often, both in Germany and abroad. Hell, it's one of the reasons that I'm a history teacher.
Number two happened several weeks ago and much closer to home. In our neighbourhood we're well used to finding all sorts of flyers and business cards attached to our cars - mostly they're from used car dealers looking for new merchandise. This time it was a completely different business trying to attract new customers, the PUSSY CLUB advertising its "sex-flatrate" for 99€ with the lurid details of what's included: food and drink - barbecue when the weather permits, "dildo & live sex shows" featuring 'lesbians', sex with any of the 35 women in the club as often and any way you want (Analsex inklusive), but also sports events on pay tv and sunbeds.
Every single car in our street had one of these garishly-coloured flyers behind their windscreen wiper. I don't even know where to start with my rant about this, but I guess it shows that the recession means that even the brothels feel the need to be much more aggressive in their advertising. I mean I'm used to the fairly discreet ads for the various clubs on some of the taxis and the slightly more obvious ones on trailers parked by the roadside, but this flyer left me somewhat speechless.
