Last August I noticed an unusual plant between the cracks of the pavement in my street.
Now it's back and grown a lot bigger:

If it weren't for the neighbourhood dogs' legs and the exhausts of the parked cars pointing right at the pretty leaves, I'd make rocket pesto tonight from a recipe in one of my favourite cook books.

Date: 2009-05-03 11:10 am (UTC)Rocket, Italian rucola, German Rauke is what Americans call arugula - though I've just had a look around wikipedia and now know that while the plant in the picture (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schmalblättriger_Doppelsame) above is often sold as rucola in Germany, it's not technically the same as Eruca sativa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eruca_sativa).
The other stuff is just a weed that looks a bit like parsley.
