Family gathering.

Two sets of parents, one step-brother and two hosts can manage to have a nice afternoon and evening in a small apartment though it means eating buffet-style with your plates balanced on your knees.
My brother turned up thirty minutes late - he'd taken the wrong train (but that wasn't the problem, it's just a different line) and instead of just walking from the main station to our house through the streets that he knew he decided to find a more scenic route which is a challenge in itself. From what he told us, I guess that he must have done a 10 km detour.
My parents had promised to bring the traditional chocolate-nut birthday gugelhupf. Guess what they left at home? We had lovely homemade cheesecake, so we weren't cakeless, but I barely managed to keep my stepmom from driving back to Smalltown (50 km each way!) to get it. My dad was pretty quiet for the rest of the day. We got the whole routine: "But I thought you had.." - "No, I only took..."
While looking at the new additions for my bracelet on my right wrist, I managed to tip over the half-full glass of tea I was holding in my left hand resulting in tea spillage. I've got a talent for disregarding even the most basic laws of physics.
Oh, the food was yummy and we all had a good time.
I've got to thank the boyfriend again for making it all possible.

Date: 2009-03-10 11:23 am (UTC)As you can guess I haven't bought you anything yet. Possibly you'll have to wait for my Easter break until I find time to go shopping. But birthdays should extend beyond the months, shouldn't they?
Glad to hear you had a fun time anyway.
*hugs*

It's good to see you! How are you doing?
As to the birthday: It's all good. I think I did something very similar with your birthday last year - meaning to buy something and not finding the time - and then I never got round to it at all!

Date: 2009-03-10 09:43 pm (UTC)It is very tiring though, and I try to go to bed early. So no more late nights lesson prep for me! Getting it all done in the weekend goes fairly well, so in the evenings there's time for cuddles and lounging on the sofa.
I'm really looking forward to a bit more sunshine though!

It sounds like you're coping well with the change even though the stamp on your post tells me that you didn't really go to bed early when you made this comment..
