Sometimes I want to post and then I don't know what I want to say. It's not that I haven't got anything to say - there is lots - but I can't decide which of the many things going through my head I want to share with you.

I could ask for another book recommendation - this time for school.

I could share some deeply personal musings on the past year and the future.

I could fill this place with inane chatter about shopping for presents or about the little things that happen at work. And of course, the weather, always a popular topic.

I could write about the television I've been watching and the books I've been reading, but I'm not really one for writing long and thought-through reviews.

Oh and then there are memes. Always a good way of filling the void. I like the ones with audience participation, but sometimes they become about fishing for compliments and I'm uncomfortable with that.

I guess I don't really know what to do with this blog. I am writing for myself, but I'm also writing for you, the people who read this.

I like feeling connected. Right now, I don't know how to do that, except by reading and occasionally commenting on other people's posts.

I've been feeling the same way a lot lately. If it helps, I'd be interested in reading all and any of those topics you mentioned.

Do you mean a book recommendation for your kids at school?

Yeah, I want to read another novel-length text with my advanced students - nothing too difficult or high-brow, and it would be great if I could cover one of the following subjects/themes: globalization or something that somehow relates to Great Britain and the monarchy. The connection doesn't have to be very obvious.

Maybe something by Douglas Coupland? His writing isn't too difficult, but I don't know whether he's written something that can be linked to globalisation. JPod seems to imply such a thing, but I haven't read it.

Thanks - I'll look into that.

Just when you're searching for themes none of them come to mind! Especially if the connection can be subtle. I browsed through my bookshelf and I don't think any of them really suit. I'm sorry I can't help!

Thanks anyway. It's difficult to come up with something when you're restricted to a theme.

I have a similar feeling these days. I want to write and share, but on the other hand, it's more of the same, so I write little things.
I like chatting about cars, btw, even though I don't know anything about them, and my opinions are superficial. (I like the new car, btw. Can't wait till we've got it. And I can't wait for the other stuff.)

I enjoyed the car chat, too.

How are you holding up? You seem so calm and collected about it all.

BTW, I've got everything ready for the little something to send to you and am only waiting for one tiny important detail to get it done.

Because I've got no clue whatsoever what'll happen I'm just sitting this one out. It's slowly starting up, but I guess my uterus is a somewhat reluctant car: I wake up with a hard belly in the middle of the night, can't sleep because of cramps and then it all stops again.

On Thursday my blood pressure was way up high again and the midwife wanted me to go in and have the baby, because she fears pre-eclampsia. So that was another hour on the monitor, and P. dashing home from work to get my bag, only to discover I was being sent home by the gynaecologist because nothing else was wrong apart from the high blood pressure.

I have to go back in on Monday morning, when the gynaecologist will decide whether to start it up, or just send me home again. So actually I'm kind of hoping she'll arrive this weekend, so I don't have to bother with going in on Monday. ;-)

I'll email the little important detail.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and Little Bit.

I've always kept a diary and in a way I feel that Lj is rather like that. I don't record every little thing, but I do like to keep track of small things and some personal things.

I think as long as Lj is what YOU want it to be that's fine. There should be no expectation for anything else really?

Also - I joined Lj originally to comment on other people's posts, so that's pretty much what I do most of the time. :)

*hugs*

The times when I kept a diary were always times of upheaval and diary writing was mostly deeply personal, stream-of-consciousness stuff, which is not really suited to livejournal.

I guess I'm thinking too much about my readers and commenters at the moment and if I want to raise a topic or have a chat about something I should just do it. On the other hand, I've got the feelings that blogs with a strong focus on one topic work best, but then I don't want to limit myself.

Well, I think I should just get on with it and continue with my mixed bag of blog posts.

The blogs I like reading best or actually the ones that don't focus on one specific topic, but show the wide range of interests of the writer.

I think Derek's blog (http://penmachine.com/) is one of the first blogs I started reading, and it's one of the personal blogs that survived on my reading list because of his voice and mixture of personal posts and posts that reflect his interests. I also admire his openness: when he was diagnosed with colon cancer he decided to blog about it, and now he keeps his readers up to date about the progress of his cancer treatment, but he still writes about what he likes in life.

To cut my ramblings short: I like you mixture of posts as well.

I check in on Derek most days, too - found him via your bloglines, which I use almost daily, because I'm too lazy to add my own bookmarks for some of the blogs in your feed.

And actually, apart from the language blogs I read, almost all the other blogs I follow have posts on a variety of topics.
