Project week is nearly over. Tomorrow we'll have a Year 5 assembly where all the classes show off what they've done and learnt.
Today, during the rehearsals, I had to fight the tears, for several reasons:
Thirty enthusiastic kids singing the chorus to "We are the world", badly but with joy in their hearts. That song is a bitch to sing and we've even got a small group doing the first verse. It's recognizable, though not of high artistic quality. Still, heartwarming.
The class clown playing the riff to "Smoke on the Water" on his electric guitar, mangling it somewhat. He's part of the America group and for him the electric guitar and that song are totally American. (I don't have the heart to tell him that the song was written about an event in Europe and is played by British musicians.)
Oh, and the trainee music teacher who taught them the song is having her second child in March.
There is also a short martial arts display, African music and six kids showing off how to do The two of diamonds string figure. (Scroll down to see a video at the link.)
I used to think that the kids' presentations had to be perfect. I was so wrong.
