This has been a day of minor annoyances at school - administrative cock-ups, stupid decisions made higher up, pointless quarrels and a photocopier that won't behave.

This is the best:

It has been decided that the next Year 10 exams will include a listening part. The PTB have kindly provided us with a sample test. I've just listened to a fake interview with a Martin Halstead who operates an airline passenger service between the two most famous universities, Oxford and Cambridge. I started giggling right away. Oxford and Cambridge? That's about as far removed from our students' experience as you can get.

Then, for fun, I googled the name. It turns out that indeed, in 2005, a Martin Halstead caused a media storm with his new Alpha1 airline and that he was deadly serious about Oxbridge flights.

Only it all came to nothing. The internet domain of his company is now for sale.

I'm not surprised it came to nothing. You might as well have flights between Koln and Bonn! How very silly and utterly inappropriate. It could almost be a British exam board at work.

At first, I thought some very stupid German exam board person had come up with the Oxbridge flights idea, but obviously this idea is so stupid that you couldn't make it up.

I read about the poem censoring in your post and elsewhere. *headdesk* Doesn't Romeo and Juliet promote knife crime, too? Or rather sword crime?

What's in the water? Have they all gone completely bonkers?
