Tabloid war heats up!

Well, the formerly so morally superior Bildzeitung has had a go at the Beckham family. Of course, now the Sun is voicing its moral outrage (I still won't provide a link), but here's an excerpt:
Of course they get half of the article wrong. Granted, the stuff about Beckham's sister is pretty strong, though chubby doesn't equal fat, and compared to the headline "Big in the Bumdestag" it's not much different. Also, they didn't say Victoria is a trophy-wife, but a Luxus-Gattin and calling small children Zwerge, literally dwarfs, is definitely not an insult. Many kindergarten groups are called that and I doubt the parents would approve if they saw it as demeaning. And that final insult about Joanne? That she's a professional sister? The Bildzeitung says they got it from an English colleague. (Not that you should believe the Bildzeitung, but you can clearly see that the tabloid war is heating up.)
The BBC's paper monitor (which alerted me to the whole story) though notices that there's a strong resemblance between Mama Beckham and our chancellor which brings us right back to the original story about Ms Merkel's bottom.
It's fascinating when one tabloid calls the other 'sleazy' and 'vile' only to retaliate a couple of weeks later. It's meta tabloidism. And of course, this piece wasn't written to make England lose, but to amuse the German readers (and naturally, as a challenge to the Sun).
Oh, and that last question the Sun asks whether anyone can name a partner of the German football stars? I can and trust me, she is a stunner. (Her English is appalling though.)
