The kid made this in kindergarten with a little help. It is a pink pirate bat with an eye-patch.
This year we didn't have much luck with St. Martin celebrations - despite there being about 150 different St. Martin lantern walks in our town. They are organised by kindergartens and schools (and the local shopkeepers' associations). Some are bigger affairs, like the St. Martin Market the Sunday before last, but with the kid having a fever and a bad cold we gave that one a miss. On Tuesday there were were the kindergarten festivities, but there was too much rain so they had to be held indoors with no fire and no traditional lantern walk through the allotments. It was fun nonetheless and there was music and singing, but just not the real deal.
We tried again last Sunday with another smallish Martin's market in one of our city's many suburbs - there was a carousel, food stalls and drinks for the grownups. We knew there'd be a big parade and were prepared to wait in the cold for the start:

But then the rain came bucketing down and we decided to go home early missing the lantern walk. The rain did stop I am told but we didn't want to get wet through.
