sister_luckSilves is a town in the hinterland. Mostly known for its castle and its cathedral.
Here are some pictures:
The Moorish castle sitting atop the town - you can't see the houses here, they're all out front.
Walking up from the car park:
Inside there was an exhibition on Pirates and they were preparing the grounds for the annual Medieval Fair when the whole town goes back into the past and they re-enact history in the streets.
We walked along the castle walls and looked down towards the river Arade. In the grounds the fountains of the faux-Moorish gardens were switched off, probably in preparation of the festival.
The Cathedral:
Most of Silves hasn't been spruced up as you can see from the houses on the left.
I believe this is the town hall:
