It's advent, so it must be time for adventures, right?

The wallpaper removal has begun and it is not as difficult as expected - I'd feared there'd be generations of layers, but so far the most we've encountered is two. We've been looking at kitchens (high priority) and other furniture (less important). Rooms have been measured and we've been moving around beds and wardrobes and desks in our heads and on paper. The real moving is scheduled for February. For now, it's all decisions about where we want the electrical sockets, what flooring to choose and what goes in which room.

If all goes according to plan, Kingston will grow up in the house where his great-grandfather was born. It's a beautiful turn-of-the-century building, erected in 1905, I think, and we have two whole floors to make into our home. There is ample space for living, working, playing, sleeping, cooking, eating, bathing and everything else.

While we've got all that on our minds, there's still the Christmas shopping to be done, which we managed to turn into another adventure by braving the crowds today - one of the rare Sundays with the shops open. We took the subway/tram and the baby, but left the pram at home. Kingston was snug as a bug in the wraparound sling under his dad's winter jacket. There were masses of people everywhere and on our way back we shared the carriage with football fans in full regalia returning from today's home match. It was empty by Japanese standards, but just a bit too crammed for comfort. (We're awarding ourselves points for these things.)
