Birthday - late!

I didn't get online yesterday, so couldn't post my birthday wishes to paranoid_blonde. I hope she had a lovely day with her family and am sending my best wishes for a wonderful year.

Roadtrip

Yesterday we hopped into the car and went to Antwerp. There wasn't much pre-planning; we wanted to go someplace we'd never been before and it's just over a two-hour-drive. Brussels would have meant twenty minutes more in the car and Saturday night was a bit too late to arrange a meeting with franceslievens and going to Brussels without seeing her would have been a crime.

Antwerp is a self-described "pocketsize metropolis". We wandered about the streets quite aimlessly and took in the sights, sounds and smells. A very enjoyable Sunday and we managed to avoid the big downpour of rain by having a rather late lunch in a sheltered pavement pizzeria. (Yes, the weather is back to our normal summer standard which means the odd bit of rain and temperatures of around 25°C.) So we had our meal, people-watched and I was distracted by the bunch of 60-something German tourists sitting at the table next to us. They managed to have a 20-minute discussion about two touristy walks in a booklet and whether the accompanying map was on its head or not. We'll definitely return and then we might even manage to have a look at a Rubens.
