Penalties again!
Jun. 30th, 2006 08:14 pmSo, 'we' won. Isn't it funny how when the national team wins it's 'us' and if they lose it's 'them'.
There is the expected honking of horns and so on, but the best reaction I witnessed from our living room window. It opens into a proper backyard and you can see the back of another row of houses. (Think Rear Window). Out stepped onto her balcony a very cute Asian woman - she might be Korean or possibly Japanese, I can't tell - to attend to the family's washing dressed in a nighty as it is another hot day . When she spotted us, she raised her fist, did a little dance and screamed a very spirited 'woohooo'.
But what is true dedication to your team? How do you earn true fan credibility?
The boyfriend, who has never been to a proper big football stadium, told me a story today from his past. When he was a small boy, seven or eight, his neighbour gave him a life-sized cardboard cutout of Paul Breitner. He resided in the basement of his parents' salon and everyday he got a punch to his face. Why? You see, Paule played for Bayern Munich and no true and self-respecting fan of Borussia Mönchengladbach can let a Bayernsau go unpunished.
