The second day we had a car we drove up part of the West coast of Mallorca. As is the case with NZ's South Island the west coast is where it's wild and wonderful.

Lots of winding roads, trees, little towns and mountains:



My favourite place was Banyalbufar - I don't want to know what it looks like in full tourist season, but I loved the quiet version.

Before you get there, there is an old tower, Torre del Verger where everyone stops to admire the view of the coastline.

(Though realistically, Playa de Palma was a much better fit, because so much more to do beyond going for walks.)

We did walk down the hill to the sea, though the kid gave up about two thirds down and then I raced around the corner and there wasn't that much to see there down there.

Then we dragged the kid up the hill again and had excellent pizza (mine had a sprinkling of honey on it and it was gorgeous!) sitting in a lovely courtyard that was decorated with an old bicycle:



The kid loved his pizza so much that he kept stuffing his face until he'd eaten nearly three quarters of a really big grown-up pizza. We tried telling him that we would take the left-overs with us, but he just wouldn't listen. Yes, the results were very predictable. He survived the serpentines of the mountains, but on the way home on the motorway it happened. I was very glad that I had a plastic bag handy...
