Where to start?

I've been talking up the wilderness aspect of my trip, but to tell you the truth this particular region in Hesse is a thoroughly civilized place. We were located in a YMCA holiday camp close to a tiny town and it was a lot more comfortable and accessible than the place we stayed at on our last trip. We took the train which for some reason is much more relaxing than being stuck in a coach even if it means changing trains a couple of times and herding pupils struggling with their luggage along various platforms.

The week started with a lot of rain. Monday and the first half of Tuesday were rather miserable and grey, but after that we got the most glorious autumn weather.

So, that's what I'll show you first.

Even in the drizzle it wasn't all grey:

Later, the wind drove the grey away and we got clouds and sunshine and some blue sky:

The trees are still mostly green:

Looks lovely and peaceful. I've always loved the way green fields contrast against grey stormy skies. Adn those trees in the first pic are gorgeous. We don't have any that have turned like that yet, but in about a month we will.

I love the autumn light - it's got this special quality like it's filtered and pure.
The trees are only just starting to colour except for a few bushes and maples and some trees that just went brown.
