Capturing December: Day 9
Today was a quiet day after getting a Christmas overdose yesterday - we had family over and the little one got treated to a visit by some mix between Weihnachtsmann and Knecht Ruprecht, well, my stepbrother dressed in a Santa Claus outfit with a fake beard, nose and glasses. Originally, he was meant to be St. Nikolaus but as the kid learned in kindergarten that he has a mitre they had to improvise a little.
The kid bought it hook, line and sinker - he was totally attentive and went through a whole range of emotions from excited to scared to very happy and proud.
Thinking back to my own childhood I can't remember getting a visit like that - I remember my dad being against scaring kids with fantasy figures like that (and at the same time reading the most gruesome Grimm's fairy tales to me...). Now that they're the grandparents they love it, but then we don't run around saying "If you're not good you won't get any presents for Christmas but Hans Muff will come, put you in his sack and beat you senseless". In my recollection, that was what I was told about the childhood Christmas stories: that my parents' parents, teachers and guardians used them to scare them: "If you look through the keyhole when the Christkind is there you will go blind" and that my parents decided that I was to be spared such nonsense. I still managed to enjoy Christmas - and I did put my boots outside the door on December 5 and yes, I found nuts and tangerines and a little present the next morning.
So, long ramble, still no picture? I mostly did reading for school today, but there is one Christmassy thing that I can share with you:

That's the CD booklet for the Christmas Pirate musical the kid saw with his kindergarten - he is at that age where everything can be made better by adding pirates.
