You wanted details, here they are :

  • On Saturday morning at round about six little Kingston's (his official internet handle) swimming pool got unplugged, so we went to hospital.

  • There, things went their way - exams and ultrasound, bed rest (head wasn't yet where it was supposed to be), head descended, labour started, we went for a walk, contractions came more often, then slowed down again after a relaxing bath, then they were helped along to get faster, got too strong, medication was given to slow them down again, and then it was time to push and that took a while again and then he was there and screamed - on Sunday morning, at 3.33.

  • Then he spent a little time with me, but the placenta wouldn't come out, so Daddy got to cuddle with him after he was measured (50cm, 2620 g) and I was wheeled to the operating theatre. I didn't believe the 50cm and when the doctors examined him a couple of days later they wrote down 45cm in his little book.

  • So much for the birth - I'll write more about the hospital stay at some other point, but I was very glad to go home on Thursday, mostly because of the mosquito bites that we got there...

  • Biggest challenge so far - fortunately one that we seem to be mastering: Learning to be patient with each other so that breastfeeding works.

  • The first night at home Kingston brought the house down (see above) - but since then things have been going well. He's putting on weight and we're all learning to adjust to life together.

  • On Sunday, Kingston's grandparents and his great-grandmother (his Daddy's gran) came over and were initially slightly frustrated because the baby wouldn't wake up. When he finally did, helped along by a nappy change, his great-grandmother urged him to "Scream, little boy. We want to hear you scream!", which made me dread the night, but thank god he didn't listen to her. Everyone got to hold and cuddle him and he was universally declared to be a sweet little boy.

  • Our midwife is a real character, but we're happy with each other.

  • Yesterday, we all went to the shops together, with Kingston carried by Daddy in a sling.

  • Any questions? Anything I forgot to tell you?
