I love how English can combine names like in Lake Windermere.

German has some more terms as well and the Meer= the sea, See = the ocean rule is not always true. In Low German and in Dutch Meer/meer = lake, zee/-see = the sea, hence it's Nordsee and Ostsee for the North Sea and the Baltic Sea and there are a couple of lakes called Meer, e.g. the Steinhuder Meer
