Under the cut, some of the pictures of our New Year's Day Walk.

It wasn't a very long walk and fairly unplanned, but with a huge network of paths and walkways, we were sure we'd find our way back to the car. We did, although using the GPS on my mobile proved helpful in getting there while there was still some light.

The woods where we went aren't really far away from civilization, quite the contrary the drone of the motorway is nearly constant on one side of the hill, but this was still an unexpected sight:

This splendid Jugendstil facade belongs to a now disused ground water tank - it is a listed building, so that's why it is still around.

Much older is this chapel devoted to a local saint, Saint Irmgardis. This building is from 1664, but the first church there dates back to 1498.

We walked a little along the muddy paths and encountered many old and gnarled trees:

Lots of moss on this felled tree:

With a little more mist, this one would have been downright spooky:

There were fields, too and a very smelly Miete or storage clamp.

It was noticeably colder than the last couple of days. The flowers on the brambles by the field probably won't last much longer.
