Without much further ado, some pictures of last Sunday's mini-excursion to yet another local Schloss, a water castle with a very pretty English garden. It's called Schloss Dyck and you can stop snickering, because it's pronounced deeeeek not dick, though I confess to a smirk when reading that Hermannus de Dicco was the first documented owner of some sort of fortified structure in the spot where the castle is today.

The aristo who had the garden done was an important amateur botanist heavily into succulents and cacti. A genus of Bromeliaceae was named after him. Quoting wikipedia here: "Dyckias, with stiff and thorny leaves, prefer rocky and/or sunny areas and have a natural tendency to clump leading to thick, large mats."

Have some pictures instead.

Buildings date back to 17th century with some 18th century renovations.

The garden looked splendid when the sun came out - definitely done with the landscape painter in mind.

The park is pretty expensive to visit, but they also have a great sand and water playground and we sat in a Strandkorb and watched the kid digging channels and building dams.

We left because the sky had turned dark:
